The proposed tax rate for city operations for 2012 is 5.9, same as in 2011.
That means that for every $100,000 in property value, residents would pay $590 in taxes. That would be in addition to property taxes dedicated to the school board and county commission.
The city's revenue from property taxes in 2012 is estimated at $3,635,965,605, compared with $3,517,506,065 in 2011, an increase of 3.37 percent.
At the 5.9 millage rate, the city would see an increase of $698,911 in tax revenue from last year.
City staff had recommended raising the proposed tax rate to 6.5.
Commissioners also voted to raise the city's fire fee from $125 to $145. The tentative increase would bring an additional $910,040 into the city's coffers.
Public budget hearings will be held Sept. 12 and 24.
